Another thing I’ve been doing yesterday. Tablet weaving! I don’t know whose bright idea it was to have a beginner do a 2,5m project…
Anyway…
Pic. 1 - it was hell trying to stretch all the strings to tautness. Admittedly I didn’t start out with the obvious “pull each one on its own till it’s tight” method.
Pic. 2 - I’ve been trying to repeat the pattern from different starting points, because the design looked really bad.
Pic. 3 - turns out the design was showing up beautifully on the underside of the thing. Is that supposed to happen or did I screw something up? The instructions didn’t say which way the cards should be facing at the beginning, could that be what’s up?
Pic. 4 - refreshments courtesy of boyfriend. It would be a pepsi float if it wasn’t all blended. yum.

Lookit! My first completely hand spun two plied wool yarn :) So much fun.
Pic. 1 - still twisty before the shocker bath, whatever it’s called.
Pic. 2 - dry after shocker bath. No longer twisty! Win.
Pic. 3 - so uneven… I can live with that. Look at those two almost pro strands, though!
Pic. 4 - pear/grenade center pull ball.
It’s really short (didn’t measure…) so I don’t think I’ll be doing anything with it. It’s going to be the tester for when I get around to dyeing. I want to do natural dyes, but maybe I should start with chemical ones? Would that be easier?

Well, half a kg of wool came in the mail just now, courtesy of mom…
My weaving tablets aren’t ready yet!! Argh!
Ok, calm down, one thing at a time.
First, I shall try to spin some of it on the top whorl spindle (I suck with the bottom one, I think it’s unbalanced. That, and I suck). I might need to weigh it down a bit, because it doesn’t spin too long and I need both hands for drafting.
Second, ply it and wrap into skeins.
Third, collect old pots from friends and get the mordant.
Fourth, go on escapades looking for natural dyeing ingredients.
Fifth, dye!
Sixth, perhaps tablet weave (if it feels manageable, I was gonna try today with scrap bits). If not, ball it (on nostepinne?)
Yay!

Got inspired by my Slavic mythology studies. This would be Veles, patron of many things - magic, music, the otherworld, to name a few.
Damn you, sudden interests! I’ve completely forgotten about 100 word stories, barely got into spinning, and here you are again, with drumming this time. Sigh. Fine. Next time I’m on the other side of town, I’ll retrieve my frame drum from mom’s place.

So, “creamsicle” huh? I dig that.
The very essence of tumblr, I’d say.

Second time around everything’s kinking up from the very start. Could barely get yarn off the spindle - couldn’t wind a ball straight away, had to skein it (with the kinks still in there). Maybe I’ll be able to wind it tomorrow.

A crocheted sample with my first plied yarn.
It also seemed to have too much twist. I wonder if it’s because it’s plastic and keeps it pretty well? Or because I didn’t let the singles sit overnight? (Is this necessary with artificial materials?) Oh well.

Two plied plarn on a makeshift nostepinne :) woo!
One of the singles had two much twist and was kinking up pretty bad. Will try better next time.

Yay, practicing with plarn!
So far I’m only using the top whorl one. It doesn’t spin for too long, probably needs more weight on the outside (the whorl is cardboard).
